OpenClaw on a Mac

Beyond the
OpenClaw app.

OpenClaw's own macOS app does a lot: a menu bar companion and dashboard, voice wake, a Canvas panel, Mac tools for your agents, usage and cost. It's also a 350 MB download, with the OpenClaw runtime inside, and needs macOS 26.2. If you want less app, or more agents than OpenClaw, there are others. This guide covers them, and when the official app is still the one to use.

What are the best alternatives to the official OpenClaw macOS app?

Pick by what you want instead. To chat with the agents on gateways you already run: littleguys (small and free, any number of gateways, with Claude Code and Codex in the same window), Pincer (native, new) or ClawControl (desktop and phone). To run OpenClaw on this Mac without a terminal: ClawX or OpenClaw Easy, which bring their own OpenClaw. For a messenger where agents join group chats: ClawChat. The gateway's own Control UI needs no app at all. For voice wake, Canvas and Mac tools, the official app is still the one.

The apps

  1. littleguys

A WhatsApp-style chat app: every OpenClaw agent, on every gateway you connect, is a contact with its own threads. It reads the ~/.openclaw you already have, so there's nothing to set up.

Pick it if you want a small app to chat with your agents, approve their commands and see their cron jobs, on one gateway or several, with Hermes, Claude Code and Codex in the same window.

macOS 13+, Apple silicon and Intel · Free, MIT · 17 MB · Download it

  2. Pincer by Travis Harris

A native Mac and iPhone client for OpenClaw, with chats organized like Discord: exec approvals as notifications you answer (allow once, always allow, deny), cron jobs to run, pause and edit, and several gateways signed in at once, over Tailscale or your Wi-Fi.

Pick it if you want a native OpenClaw-only app on your Mac and iPhone, with chats, approvals and cron. It's new: on the App Store since October 21, 2026.

macOS 15+ (Mac App Store); iPhone (TestFlight) · Free, MIT · 22 MB · App Store, README

  3. ClawControl by jakeledwards

A desktop and phone client for OpenClaw: several agents streaming at once, exec approvals as cards in the chat, and cron jobs to create, run and pause, on a gateway you reach by URL, Tailscale included. You save several servers and switch between them, one at a time.

Pick it if you want one OpenClaw app on your Mac, Windows, Linux and phone.

macOS 12+, Windows, Linux (Electron); iPhone ($0.99), Android · Free on desktop, MIT · 191 MB · README, releases

  4. ClawX by ValueCell

A desktop app that puts OpenClaw behind a graphical interface, with chat and schedules and no terminal. It always runs its own built-in OpenClaw, patched with web search and some tools turned off, so it can't connect to a gateway on another machine.

Pick it if you're new to OpenClaw and want it running on this Mac without a terminal. Its telemetry is on by default.

macOS 11+, Windows, Linux; Electron · Free, MIT · 294 MB · README, no remote gateways, releases

  5. OpenClaw Easy

A desktop app that installs and runs OpenClaw on this Mac for you, with no terminal, server or config file, and schedules. It runs a gateway on this machine only.

Pick it if you want the simplest way to start OpenClaw on one computer.

    macOS, Windows; Electron · Free, Apache-2.0, with a paid hosted-AI tier · 419 MB · site, README

  6. ClawChat by Clawling

A messenger where your agents get accounts and join chats with you, through a plugin you install next to OpenClaw or Hermes. Messages sync through ClawChat's own service; end-to-end encryption is an optional beta, for one-to-one text only.

Pick it if you want your agents in group chats with people, on every device, and don't mind a cloud service in the middle.

iPhone, Android, macOS, Windows · Core features free; plugins MIT · 46 MB · site, App Store, OpenClaw plugin

  7. OpenClaw Control UI by OpenClaw

The web dashboard every gateway serves: chat, exec approvals with a 30-day history, and cron jobs with their runs. From another machine you reach it through Tailscale Serve, with a one-time pairing for each browser.

Pick it if you don't want another app at all: the gateway already serves it.

Any browser, served by the gateway · Free, MIT; one gateway per dashboard · Control UI, connect and pair, exec approvals

  8. Agent Hub by Potarix

A chat window over the Claude Code, Codex, Hermes and OpenClaw CLIs, run on this Mac or over SSH on any host you can reach, with a terminal per host. It starts its own session for each thread, and approvals work for Claude Code on this Mac only.

Pick it if you want OpenClaw next to Claude Code, Codex and Hermes, run on hosts you reach over SSH, with a terminal per host.

macOS 11+, Apple silicon only · Free, MIT · 194 MB · site, README, approvals

  9. Aight by Pangea Roads

An iPhone app for OpenClaw, Hermes, Claude Code and Codex, with group chats where agents hand off by @mention and voice. Claude Code and Codex connect through its plugin and a cloud relay, so only sessions started through the plugin show up.

Pick it if you want to talk to OpenClaw from your iPhone, in group chats with your other agents.

iPhone, iPad; Apple silicon Macs run its iPad app · Free for one kind of agent, or $4.99 a month; closed source · site and pricing, App Store, Claude Code plugin

Checked on November 1, 2026 against each app's own site, docs, README and releases. Left out: wzdavid's OpenClaw Desktop (no release since June 2026), Claw Command (one release, in February), Claw Desktop (its last release is a February beta), and ClawBox, a name several unrelated projects use, none of them a maintained Mac chat app.

When the official app is the better pick

If you want voice wake and push-to-talk, the Canvas panel, letting agents use this Mac's screen and camera, or usage and cost in the menu bar, use OpenClaw's own app: none of the alternatives here do all of that. It's free and MIT, ships the OpenClaw runtime inside, and also connects to gateways on other machines, over an SSH tunnel or directly, with exec approvals. OpenClaw's docs.

OpenClaw in littleguys

  1. Install it with Homebrew or the .dmg (below). It's 17 MB.
  2. Open it. If OpenClaw runs on this Mac, littleguys connects on its own, and your agents show up right away.
  3. Add your other machines from Settings → Add gateway: it lists the gateways it finds on your tailnet and LAN. Each approves this Mac once, with the openclaw devices approve command littleguys shows you. More on gateways on other machines.

No OpenClaw yet? littleguys can install it with the official installer and set it up with the AI provider you pick, without a terminal.
